Here it is March

Well, I was sick weekend before last and most of last week. This week I’m feeling much better and all that lingers is a little cough. I would say that I’m feeling better, but tomorrow the weather is going to do one of its 31 degree drops and I anticipate feeling it. You know that pressure and headache that makes you almost certain that your eye has decided that it doesn’t want to live in your head anymore and it is about to pop out and run away.

Matt and I went to the lawn and garden show last Saturday in Nashville. It wasn’t what we had expected, and he still isn’t allowed to remind me how much we paid in admission.

My quilting debut isn’t going to be impressive, but I’m happy to report that my first little quilt is finished. I’ll blog with pictures later. Also have you noticed my graduation ticker! Getting closer to the big day. Last week they announced the class schedule for next year and I over heard students discussing what they were registering for in the hallways. I smiled the biggest smile ever. It feels amazing to NOT have to register for classes next year.

I’ll end the post with a little funny story. I had been on the fence as to whether or not I should order a pair of jeans. I’ve been trying to cut back on my unnecessary spending (not that I spent very much anyhow). The jeans were on sale. I slept on it and decided I wanted to get them. I got online the next day, and, WaaaLaa! The price had been reduced further to $19.99! Cheers for jeans under 20 bucks (in tall, I might add)! And here’s to sleeping on it! Anyhow, they were delivered to me at the office yesterday and I was more than pleased with the steal I got. I was showing them to the female attorney that I work for, and apparently her office was the happening place because two other male attorneys were camped out in there. I held up my super long jeans (that I, at six foot tall, will need to hem just a bit) and D (male attorney) stated, “Wow! You could cut arm holes in there and I could wear those as overalls!” I laughed and we held them up to wittle D. Sure enough, the waist hit right around his chest! Awww, little guy. The other male attorney said that was "just wrong". But hey, he made the comment first. Fair game!

February is almost over. Yippee!

Well, March begins next week and I couldn’t be more excited. One more month down and closer to the end of all this school that is plaguing the Silvey home.

Last weekend I got to see friends two nights in a row, which is almost unheard of. Friday night I had Bunco, and got to see that great group of gals. Two ladies are showing off their adorable little pregnancy bumps. One is due May 31^st and the other June 1^st, just a day apart. It is all very exciting and I’m very happy for their families. On Saturday, we celebrated a friends 37^th birthday. We were strictly told no presents, so Matthew wrote up a witty little poem about things they did growing up (Matt has known him since 7 grade). It was really funny, and made the birthday boy man smile. It was nice getting to spend some time with all of our friends and their spouses too.

I also began my first attempt at quilting. Oh my word. What was I thinking. I can’t cut the fabric straight. And once I did, I would sew a piece and then scratch my head trying to figure out what to do next to make it all work out right. Matt was in the chair working on school work and I spread out in the floor with my little pieces. After listening to my frustration for a while, he looked at me asked me what it was exactly I was trying to do. I told him, he looked at it and told me. Of course I still just scratched my head, so he told me again. Uhhhh?!?! I was still confused. He got in the floor, took the pieces from my hand and said, “Sew here. Here. And here,” pointing to each CORRECT place. Ugg! Stinker!

It was supposed to have about a 3 inch border separating each striped section, but being a beginner. I learned that if you cut them the way I did, and put them on each square, you actually end up with a 6 inch border. Again… Why did I start this?!?!?!

I wish this weather was here to stay

The weather was fabulous in TN this weekend. And today for that matter.

Saturday night Matt and I went to the APSU v. Murray game. We had a really good time. Matt had to sport a Murray shirt because he is currently doing his grad work there. He just loves to ruffle feathers. APSU won, and it was a good game. Close from the beginning to end. I liked our seats because we were against the wall so I could stand up without obstructing anyone’s view when my legs felt cramped.

Sunday I rode motorcycles with my Dad. We had a good ride and it was good to get back on the bike after so long. I was a little nervous, but I did okay. Dad follows me and that makes me feel much better. I visited with them for awhile. Played with pigsquatch (their obese dachshund). Then I got to visit with my grandmother for a bit, just me and her. She answered some questions that I had about quilting, and showed me a thing or two. She has been working on a few quilts this winter. I want to try to do I little quilting. Not the meticulous piecing together of scraps kind. Just a real simple one. My Grandmother made me a very intricate one years ago, where she pieced it all together. She told me yesterday it was a log cabin design. It is beautiful and I’ve always loved it. Now I really love it and appreciate it.

My mother likes to sew, and has made me the cutest things my whole life. Again, this is another thing I want to learn to do. She gave me a sewing machine when I graduated from college, and I’ve always said that when I graduate from law school I want her to teach me how to sew. You know, everyone used to be able to sew and now it seems pretty rare for people my age to be able to. I had an idea to dust off the machine and make a little present for two of my friends that are having babies, just something simple. Well... it turned out so darn cute I’ve made quite a few in different shapes and sizes. For some reason I find it really relaxing to sit and work on it in the evenings. Remind me later in the summer to post a picture of my little creations (I can’t do it now or it wouldn’t be a surprise).

Last months bills caused me some undue aggravation. It wasn't that I over spent during Christmas or anything (Thanks one of the many stashes I keep). But this Saturday, some credit card company’s are going to be losing one more customer. I have some choice words for one of the company’s and a noticed another company try to pull the same trick. You see, I’ve had the cards for awhile. You know the whole, “open up an account with us and save ___%” line. Well, some of them I don’t even use, and another of them moved the due date up a whole week on me. That stupid card has been due on the same day of the month for 2 years, so of course it slipped by me and when I go to pay it two days before the normal due date ( I pay online), with all the fees, MY WORD! What a difference 5 days made. I tell you what, It won’t happen again. Another company sent me this little booklet in the mail, and I read that sucker. Buried in that tiny fine print, was the information about all the changes they were instituting. They are pulling similar funny business and billing cycle changes. I don’t even use it so that one is getting the boot too. I saw a segment on the Today Show warning people of these types of shenanigans the credit card companies are pulling. At about 7:00 minutes in, it is word for word what happened to me, and why the companies are doing it (click if you want to watch). Too late to warn me, but I hope that the segment and this blog warns the rest of you to be on the look out.

tomorrow is supposed to be warm...

Well, Matt’s first week of student teaching was kind of low key. It iced, then it snowed and Matt has gone to school, but there hasn’t been any children, so he’s used the time to get acquainted with where they are at in their courses.

The ice and snow looked absolutely beautiful out at our house. I love how everything glistens in the daylight.

I got an unexpected day off of work, and also from school on Wed. I used that day to due some much needed cleaning on the bedroom. Basically things had gotten way out of hand and it seemed my closet got sick and threw up clothes all over floor. During the project I have come to the conclusion that I have WAY too many clothes. I thinned things out a bit, but I really need to part with quite a bit more. But the room is now clean and relaxing.

Matt and I don’t have big weekend plans. We are going to begin our exciting weekend off by going to the library this evening, studying and working on the shop (Matt’s old store) on Saturday, and watching the super bowl and recharging our batteries for the week on Sunday.

Matt is now a graduate student! I don’t fully understand the logistics of it all, but I know that he is now classified as a Graduate student at Murray State, and he will be getting graduate hours for his course work this semester. We are all very excited.

There’s really not a lot of other news going on at our house. I’m still working away at my last few credit hours of law school and beginning the application to the bar process. I only have two exams left in order to graduate. One exam is the first of February and the other is the last of April. Matt will be beginning his student teaching in a few days.

The Silvey’s are working away. Trying to make progress towards the goals we’ve set. At Some points it’s more overwhelming than others, but hey... at least its almost over. Right?!?!

Back to the Grind

Well the Silvey’s are back in school (and not exactly thrilled, but we’re almost there).

2009 is going to be a big year for us. Matt is doing his student teaching this semester and he’ll be all qualified for his teaching license. Which means that Matt could be in a classroom next Fall.

I’ll graduate in Ohhh… 136 days and counting and take the bar exam the last days of July. Then I’ll anxiously await the results that come out in October. So hopefully by Christmas next year I’ll be a licensed attorney, and possibly have a few clients.

We are both really ready to get closer to our family goals. We are both also pretty tired of being students, but we know that the end is in our sights. The light at the end of the tunnel isn’t quite as dim as it was.

The kiddos made it back to Texas safely, and again were very well behaved during another very long confinement (12 hours in the car). We really enjoyed their visit, and I’m pretty sure after the good behavior that they could behave just as well on a plane by themselves.

The last Saturday that they were here we played “army” for well over an hour in the woods behind my parents’ house. It was a ton of fun. Matt and I found out real quick that my youngest nephew easily cracks under our interrogation tactics (tickling) once captured. After one or two tickles from Uncle Matt he was, “ready to tell [us] anything.” He was willing to give up the secret location of their hide out and where his partner could be found.
